Yank! will extend at the York Theatre Company until April 4th, Artistic Director Jim Morgan announced today. The production, which was originally scheduled to run until March 21st, will now play for an additional two weeks, due to high demand for tickets.

The musical by brothers David Zellnik (book and lyrics) and Joseph Zellnik (music) opened on February 24th to solid reviews and Variety called it “the best new American musical since The Adding Machine.”

The production stars Bobby Steggert as Stu, a young man forced to confront his own sexual identity under the backdrop of World War II. Steggert was last seen on Broadway in Ragtime as Younger Brother and in 110 in the Shade opposite Audra McDonald, and has been with the show since the production at the Gallery Players last year.

Also featured in the show are Nancy Anderson (Wonderful Town, A Class Act), Jeffry Denman (White Christmas, The Producers), and Ivan Hernandez (Romantic Poetry, The Fantastics), as well as Andrew Durand (Spring Awakening), Zak Edwards (Encores! No No Nanette), Todd Faulkner (PBS’ “Wordscape”), Denis Lambert (A Chorus Line), Joseph Medeiros (Guys and Dolls, Grease), David Perlman (Calvin Berger at Barrington Stage), Christopher Ruth (Happy Days at Paper Mill/Goodspeed) and Tally Sessions (South Pacific).

Set during World War II, Yank! chronicles the relationship between two servicemen long before “Don’t-ask-don’t-tell” was part of the national discussion.  With a lively score inspired by the pop sounds of the 1940’s, Yank! captures the spirit and exuberance of the era as it explores questions of prejudice, courage and survival.

Featuring music by Joseph Zellnik and book and lyrics by David Zellnik, Yank! also displays music direction by John Baxindine, choreography by Jeffry Denman, set design by Ray Klausen, costume design by Tricia Barsamian and lighting design by Ken Lapham.

Yank! is co-produced by Maren Berthelsen, Pamela Koslow, Stuart Wilk, Matt Schicker, Hugh Hayes, Jim Kierstead, Sondra Healy and Shidan Majidi.

Tickets are $67.50 and are available online by clicking here by calling (212) 935-5820, or in person at the Theatre at Saint Peter’s box office (enter on 54th Street, just East of Lexington).

The York also allows students the chance to buy discount tickets without rushing. The tickets are $20 on weekdays and $30 on weekends, and can be purchased by calling or visiting the box office. “Senior Rush” is available for senior citizens one hour before any performance for only $20.
