THE ADVENTURES OF HERSHELE OSTROPOLYER TO OPEN OFF BROADWAY JUNE 3

Portraying a character often described as the Jewish Robin Hood, Mike Burstyn stars in the world premiere of a new musical, "The Adventures of Hershele Ostropolyer," which The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene presents beginning May 25.
 
Directed, adapted and choreographed by the Tony Award-nominated director and actress Eleanor Reisssa (nominated for best direction for "Those Were the Days")"The Adventures of Hershele Ostropolyer" is a new musical adaptation of the classic Yiddish play by Moyshe Gershenson.  The show – performed in Yiddish with English and Russian supertitles -- runs from May 25 to June 27 at The Baruch Performing Arts Center, 55 Lexington Avenue, with an Off-Broadway opening on Thursday June 3 at 7pm. The music direction is by Zalmen Mlotek.

Sunday May 30 at 2pm & 6pm

Tuesday June 1 at 2pm & 8pm

Wednesday June 2 at 2pm

Thursday June 3 at 2pm & 7pm (opening night)

In this rollicking musical comedy, the beloved folk hero Hershele Ostropolyer battles injustice armed only with his wits.  Ever resourceful, Hershele mobilizes an entire community to thwart the wicked designs of the town’s leading citizen, the miserly Reb Kalmen.  Burstyn heads a cast of 9 which includes Shane Baker; I. W. "Itzy" Firestone; Edward Furs; Dani Marcus; Daniella Rabbani; Steve Sterner; Nimmy Weisbrod, and Lori Wilner.
