Yisrael must return to Israel! Tour to Commence Winter 2011
After 3 Circumcisions and 3 Extensions, Circumcise Me, the new Off Broadway play written and performed by Yisrael Campbell and directed by Sam Gold (Circle, Mirror Transformation, Aliens) currently playing at Bleecker Street Theater, will play its final performance on Sunday, June 27th at 7pm. Circumcise Me will have played 12 previews and 137 regular performances and will have been seen by over 18,000 people. Yisrael will be going back to Israel with his wife and four children.
Circumcise Me’s Talkback Series “Final Cut” was also very successful. In the show’s eight month run, there were 27 talkbacks featuring such individuals as Tovah Feldshuh, Sandra Bernhard, Judy Gold, Modi, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, and Sarah Jones. There was also a conversion class talk back and a special performance for mohels, clearly Yisrael’s biggest fans. The performance schedule even changed throughout the run to accommodate Yisrael’s observance of the Sabbath.
Off Broadway's Circumcise Me Off is produced by Daf Alef Productions, Evelyn McGee Colbert, and Maximum Entertainment. Eva Price is Executive Producer. Video/set design is by Aaron Rhyne, Lighting Design is by Perchik Kreiman-Miller, and Sound Design is by Drew Fornorola and Jon Fontein. The Associate Director is Annie Levy.
“I am very grateful that the New York theater community has embraced Circumcise Me,” said Yisrael Campbell. “This show has exceeded my wildest expectations and I feel honored to have worked with such an amazing creative team and the wonderful people at the Bleecker Street Theater."
Circumcise Me tells the true story of Yisrael Campbell, your average Irish, Italian, Catholic kid from Philly, who became a sober alcoholic, recovering drug addict, husband, father, reform, conservative, unorthodox, orthodox, Jewish comic actor. In his New York theatrical debut, Yisrael (born Christopher) takes the audience on an extraordinary spiritual, creative, and hysterically funny journey including, ouch, three circumcisions along the way.
Circumcise Me is the rare collision of comedy and theatre that will have women howling with laughter and men squirming in their seats. The film “Circumcise Me,” a documentary on Yisrael’s life, is currently playing in film festivals around the country.
Tickets for Circumcise Me at The Bleecker Street Theater range from $25.00 - $65.00 with premium seating available.
