Published 2010-06-21
The critically acclaimed Off Broadway rock musical BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON played its 100th performance on Saturday, June 19 at 9:30 p.m. By the time the show closes at the end of June, it will be the second highest grossing show in The Public Theater's downtown history.
A co-production with Center Theatre Group and in association with Les Freres Corbusier, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON is written and directed by Alex Timbers and features music and lyrics by Michael Friedman. BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON began previews Off Broadway on March 23 and extended its run three times; it must end its run at The Public on Sunday, June 27.
BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON rocks The Public's Newman Theater with songs like "Populism, Yea, Yea," "Rock Star," "I'm Not That Guy," and "The Hunters of Kentucky." A cast recording will be released in the fall. Tickets through June 27 are on sale now.
On Saturday nights through June 26, including the record-breaking June 19 performance, the 9:30 show will be an "Emo-Cratic Party," where all tickets are sold for the populist price of $49 and every audience member will receive a free drink ticket, redeemable for beer, wine, or soda; all beverages can be enjoyed in the theater.
BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, an audacious mix of historical fact and invention, redefines America's controversial seventh president-the man who invented the Democratic Party, doubled the size of our nation and signed the Indian Removal Acts that started the Trail of Tears -with a raucous blend of outrageous comedy, anarchic theatricality and an infectious emo rock score. It received an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical, and a Drama Desk Award for Best Book of a Musical.
The BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON cast features River Aguirre as Lyncoya; James Barry as Monroe; Michael Crane as Clay/Blackhawk; Michael Dunn as Calhoun; Greg Hildreth as Red Eagle; Jeff Hiller as John Quincy Adams; Joe Jung as Male Soloist; Lucas Near-Verbrugghe as Martin Van Buren; Maria Elena Ramirez as Rachel; Kate Cullen Roberts as Elizabeth; Benjamin Walker as Andrew Jackson; Colleen Werthmann as The Storyteller; and Emily Young as Female Soloist.
